The Georgia Tech Library is seeking a Continuing Resources Librarian that will plan, implement, and manage all aspects of the continuing resource lifecycle for serials in both print and electronic formats. This position is responsible for acquisitions, receipt and processing of print and electronic serials, holding maintenance and binding operations. The Librarian assumes a leadership role in support of workflows committed to acquiring, describing, and providing access to serials in all mediums and languages.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate the acquisition, renewal, and maintenance of print serials, including binding.
  • Work with e-resources librarian to verify coverage and access to subscribed content
  • Perform  original and complex copy cataloging of serials and other continuing resources according to national and local standards and creating MARC21 holdings records in WorldCat and the local online catalog
  • Manage serials cataloging, holdings and item maintenance. Manage subscription and renewal processes for e-journals, print,  & microform serials.
  • Manage invoicing and payment procedures for serials in all formats.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to all aspects of serials lifecycle in all formats.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves e-journals access problems. Works cooperatively with other library departments and university departments to resolve issues.

 Faculty Status:

The position will be appointed as a member of the Instructional Faculty of the Georgia Tech Library, is non-tenure track and is subject to the review and promotion process for all Georgia Tech librarians and archivists. As a member of the Georgia Tech Library Faculty, the incumbent will have an effort distribution of 80% excellence in assigned duties, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the Library profession or the Institute. The librarian in this position must participate actively in professional and scholarly activities including Library, Institute and professional committees, research and publication.

Salary and rank commensurate with credentials and experience. This is a full-time faculty appointment.

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science, or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Minimum of two years post-MLS or paraprofessional acquisitions and/or serials cataloging experience in an academic, public or special library utilizing current cataloging rules and MARC formats.
  • Experience with an ILS and a national bibliographic utility.
  • Effective leadership skills and proven experience with teams and projects.
  • Effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional working groups as well as independently as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management or project management experience.
  • Knowledge of acquisitions and serial practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of cataloging and bibliographic principles for serials
  • Knowledge of serial/electronic resources issues and emerging trends;
  • Knowledge of metadata management tools (e.g., RDA, MARCEdit, OCLC Connexion, Access, authority control, batch processing techniques).
  • Experience with Ex Libris’ Alma System
